We begin this experiment with the most common thing people get at the concession stand, Popcorn. All four theaters we are looking at have options obviously, but that won’t be the case every round.

AMC has the largest starting price of the 4, and also the fewest size options. You would think that would easily place it in the bottom spot this round. There are some positives here though. There are three flavors of popcorn, which is more than others here, and Hidden Valley Ranch is really a unique option.

This may be a trend in these comparisons each week, but Emagine really has ‘ everything. 4 flavors, 3 sizes, the ability to mix flavors. Also, the small size was just huge for just me. That is a value that is pretty good.

MJR only has normal popcorn, but what it lacks in variety it makes up for in sizes available. There are 5 sizes here, from the small to the absurd colossal tub. That availability does play in its favor here.

Finally, there is Phoenix. You get one less size here than at MJR, but prices are slightly lower here. Not sure the at best 60 cents you save makes up for the loss of having the chance to feed a village with a colossal tub.
Ok. I think it’s obvious Emagine takes the top spot here, while Phoenix takes the bottom. This issue is between AMC’s flavors to MJR’s sizes. AMC prices start at about the same price as a large at MJR, and I think that really is deciding factor.
Emagine – 4 pts, MJR – 3 pts, AMC – 2 pts, Phoenix -1 pt.
