2024 1st Quarter Recap

Three months down on the year and it’s been an interesting one. I’ve got 39 films on list so far and of those 39, 62% have a grade of 2.5 or 3 of 5. So, not a lot of great films yet. There are a few that got 4/5 or better. Let’s start with the Top 10.

All hail the Lisan al Gaib! Dune: Part 2 enters the quarter pole at the top spot, and the only 5/5 so far this year. It broke up the International party that existed until March. Society of the Snow had the top spot since the beginning of the year too. The first seven on the list all are 4/5 or above, so it will take something great to boot them out. 8, 9, and 10 on the list are certainly in a shaky spot as the bigger, more acclaimed films are still on the horizon.

Ok. That was the better films. Time for the other side of the list….

Much like the top 10, the bottom 10 only has 5 that will be in the the list at the end of the year. The films at 30-34 are the tail end of the 2.5/5 bunch, so there is a a lot of room for worse movies to be part of the bottom 10 as the year goes on. Madame Web and the Blumhouse twins will be hard to top at the bottom of the list.
