Fall Season Predictions

The Fall season is a tricky one. It barely taps into the holiday season with Thanksgiving being at the end of the season. It also is far enough from the big tentpoles of June and July that it can’t really take advantage of that point of the year. What we have in these three months is the start of the award season and movies that would be lost in the summer or at Christmas, but deserve to not be lost in Dumpuary. Here is how I think the Box Office will shake out this season.

I don’t think I am going out on a limb by saying Moana 2 will make the most this season. It was one of the three I thought would grab over $100 million in its opening weekend in a post a couple months ago. The other 9 are a grab bag though. Wicked has a very loyal fan base, and if it gets good word of mouth, it could make maybe $200 million. Transformers live action entries always make bank, so it will be interesting if an animated entry will match those or make more. Joker, Beetlejuice, and Gladiator are all probably in the same money range, but if any or all of them are good, watch out. At the end of the list, I put Smile 2 and Here. I don’t think either will crack $100 million total, but they should make more than a lot of the other films released this quarter. This is the start of festival season. The big money makers are not usually found in this area of the calendar. The films are usually better than the ones the rest of the year though.
