1st Half Top 10/Bottom 10

We have now reached the halfway point of the year, so now is a good time to go over the bookends of my yearly rankings. First, the Bottom 10

Since the 1st quarter update, 6 films are new to the Bottom 10. I’ll use my accounting degree to tell you that is more than half. New at the very bottom is Corporate Retreat, and it is the only film I considered walking out during it. Possibly the only reason I didn’t was because I would have walked in front of the whole theater to walk out. Also, worth pointing out, that adaptation of Animal Farm was utterly embarrassing for such a classic piece of literature. Finally, if you ever find yourself in need of a good nap, pop in The Wizard of the Kremlin. That film should do the trick for you.

That was a lot of ugh there. Let’s brighten up the mood with the Top 10.

5 new entries, but none of them took a real shot at the four films up top. There is a chance when I watch Obsession or The Furious again in the future, I may question why they aren’t higher on the list. I’m historically not a horror film person, but man did Obsession work for me. One film that really surprised me was The Sheep Detectives. It was a lot deeper than the trailer made it out to be. Speaking of trailers, in a world where they spoil nearly everything, it’s a minor miracle that the twist in The Drama has stayed unknown to most who haven’t seen it.

So that is where things stack up after 84 films so far in 2026. There are some heavy hitters, both in blockbuster and festival form, in the second half. It will be interesting if any can take out a top 4 that has been in place since early March.
